Like The Heart Goes

Something so inviting

First thing in the morning

I’m as equally frightened

By the end of the day

I got sand in my pockets

It kinda weighs me down

But I’m happy and holy and  free

Smoke in my belly

A drink in my lungs

I may not be an addict but I’m turning into one

I got a voice in my pocket

It kinda weighs me down

But I’m happy and homely and free

Happy, lonely, and free

There’s just one way

I need to be

I took what you said

And I put it on its feet

If this is the day

Just let it beat, like the heart goes

Just because I’m sad

Don’t mean that I’m unhappy

Because I’m a sinner

Don’t mean ain’t a saint

So I stay under my covers

Longing for another

But I’m happy and lonely and free

Where do I count today

I’m closing it down today

Today….

The next day begins

Where the last one had ended

What do I do with a job that can’t be done

I put sand in my pockets

To kind of weigh me down

Eskimo

I once spoke up to a meter maid

She said she liked the work but not the pay

Writing tickets while you run away…Afraid

Said hey to a polar bear

Said he liked it here but not over there

That’s what its like inside a dragon’s lair

The ice is fading back

It’s like teaching architecture lecture to an Eskimo

You can show him everything you know__

He still gonna build it all out of snow

gonna take  my long division down to Mexico

I can divide …all night

Said hey to the astronaut

Said he wishes he could pick his spot

Said he likes to go out a lot

and not quite make it back

I’m gonna take my ticket and kick it down in Mexico

I’m gonna fly, all night

Been around the world, and I’ve seen

Enough to know what I mean

Got this ticking in my mind

And its about time

Set the record with Joan of Arc

She knew her destiny before the spark

She got the orders and she played her part

I’m gonna stand with my feet deeply rooted to the

Ground below

I can survive

All night…

Carpool Lane

It’s a vast change, in the carpool lane, uh-huh

A subtle lane shift, and I’m caught amidst, high speeds

The soccer moms and me

Stuck in overdrive

It’s a long ride

But I’m right by your side

No one told me, that there’d be a test, uh-huh

I never studied, but I did my best, I think

The answers were in ink

The message was inscribed

“it’s a long ride,

But I’m right by your side”

I’m right by your side

Bridge

Oh this mediocrity

Sign says got no vacancy

I know that’s just complacency

Calling me….

It’s a fine line, marking the divide, uh-huh

I could exit, ride into the empty space

But then I see your face

And now I can’t describe

It’s been a long time

And I’m right by your side

CA Nation

It’s a mystery

Dressing like a target

Splittin’ the seams

It’s Sisyphean

With my dreams in a cart

From the grocery

It sucks me like a thrill

Takes me like a pill

Climbing up this hill

California nation

Is bringing me round

One big invitation

To get off the ground

I’m a looky loo

Made it like an art form

I can see you

You’re wearing blue

I read you like a book that

I can’t get through

Hide behind the lie

Squeeze it till its dry

Singing cause  that’s how we get by

To get off the ground

Life is profound

Be who you want to be

It’s no big mystery

That we’re a bunch of freaks

Who hold out empty hands

Don’t want no sympathy, it’s our philosophy

I’m down with the verse

You living with the chorus

But it still needs work

Its paper thin

The message isn’t clever when its hidden within

Read between the lines

Hug it if it cries

Singing well  that’s how we get by

Cigarette

You smoked your last cigarette

The ashtray has no regrets

You can’t take it with you

Don’t swallow before you chew

Have a glass

Chardonnay

Make it last, for the day

You can’t take it with you

Don’t swallow before you chew

With your head full of lines

And your heart on ice

This just may be

So don’t think twice

When loves needs a push

And push comes to shove

This just may be your chance

Don’t bust it up

Sit your ass next to me

Lose you mask just to see

What goes on under there

In the depths beneath your hair?

Take take a step take a leap and then

Walk walk with pride take a ride

Take a side…

Mamma's Jam

Pain is on the outside

You will not let it in

Waving from the window

Freezing from the wind

Yeah, crying at the rainbows

You lock the door again

Yeah its freezing, but you will not let it in

Running for the border

Racing with the flag

Living like a hoarder

‘cept you can’t afford a rag

You got nickles buried under

Mamma’s pickle jar

Yeah you’re running but you will not get to far

Mamma’s up the river

Daddy’s in a jar

She said she might get out some day

Then she’ll buy a car

Head out to the country

Forget about the day

Daddy tried to hit her and she blew his ass away

Daddy tried to hit her and she blew his ass away

Worlds Collide

Making you stay

These glory days

Why do they have to end?

With you my friend

Making your way

The older I get

the harder I fit

Keeping it

Saving face

Keeping pace

Making the grade

Its funny how worlds collide

Taking it all in stride

Seemingly satisfied with this divide

From that first day

Deep in the Lake

Why did it have to end

With  you my friend

Floating away…?

The highest of highs, we’d improvise

High fives and fights like this

On Nights like this

I long for that day

Its funny how worlds collide

Taking it all in stride

Seemingly satisfied with this divide

She Waits

Have faith, promises were made

You just take… care and behave

You left and now you are saved

The path it walks you away

Meanwhile, The house is empty

The floors lay, naked and weary

The walls barely hanging on, carry on

And she waits for you

Last night you left like a bird

Fly away and never be heard

The wind is cold and absurd

But man, you gave her your word

She can’t hear anything they’re saying

She can’t believe what is true

It doesn’t make sense what they’re saying

She can’t see anyone but you

Little girl hold on and wait

Its not fair but fairness is overrated

Wait and you will be saved

The path it walks him this way

January

You walk around for days

Deep inside your haze

You catch an off off broadway play

A matinee

You lick the sugar for the cane

Kiss the hippie for his face

Feel the breeze rush through your nose

And right into your heart

Lost my jacket,  January

Hold on to the cold, and let it ride

If you’re blood’s not up then you  aint dancin

Standing only works when you’re in line

Stop to ice my shoe

With glue

The string snapped long ago

With the radio

Where I listen to the sound of a million people

Swinging to the beat of their own egos

Sticking with the plan that they learned in the steeple

Where god is good and sin is evil

Clap your hands clap your hands clap your hands clap your

Grab the van

Trust your man

There’s a plan, there’s a plan, there’s a plan…

Gamma Ray

They say that nothing in our lives is free

Keeps me runnin’

Then they tell me that my saving grace

Is I look so stunnin’

I could indulge all the evil ways

My mind is going

Then I’m  liable for the human race

Keeps me running

Look so stunning

Soaking up the Gamma Rays

Preparing for an early grave

Gotta do somethin’

Dry food will be fun to consume

Won’t it be something?

And then I’ll illustrate my great escape

If the end is coming

2012 so the Mayans say

It keeps us running

Keeps us sunning

Soaking up the Gamma rays

There’s a thought that

When it does come

The flood will set us free

But we don’t know

Help we don’t know anything

It’ll take a lot lot more than that

To set us free

They say that nothing in our lives is free

Keeps me runnin’

Then they tell me that my saving grace

Is I look so stunnin’

Keep on sunning

Soaking up the Gamma Rays

But It’ll take a lot lot more than that

To set us free

Be Me

This house is a mess

I’m in the neighborhood of loneliness

Riding a wave

We all survive to make some sense of this

Living alone

Even when you’re right here next to me

Seeking to show

I’m not a dime store refugee

And it feels so good right now

Could it be so good right now?

Now I gotta problem with electricity

What if it blows

And I lose what I have come to be?

How will I know

What my life has had in store for me?

How well I know

I’m just a shot away, just a shot away

And it feels so good right now

It feels so good right now

How could something so good

Be so bad for you?

And it feels so good right now

Could it be this good right now?

Wave

We could wait until tomorrow

If we can get through today,

If you lead then I will follow

If you think you know the way

There’s a problem down at will call

Cause you weren’t on the list

I try to comfort you, that’s my fault

I’m a plus one and I’m pissed

And if you think that I can save you

Then I’m throwing you the rope

But I’m up against the wave

Give me something to believe in

Cause I’m shoring up on hope

And I’m up against a wave

The odds are up against you

The damage has been done

But I really do like our chances

Aw baby I got a hunch

We could wait until tomorrow

If we could get through today,

If you lead then I will follow

If you think you know the way

Past Perfect

God we look so

So in the know

So in the moment

It’s there

And that’s all we care

But now

Its taking all I can muster

Just to wake up, all pale and flustered

The cards been folded , I busted

The plates are stacked and the shelves aren’t dusted

Taking me back

A picture on my lap

A dedicated slap on the back

Congratulations

And now

Its taken all I can muster

Just to wake up all pale and flustered

The cards been folded I busted

The plates are stacked and the shelves are dusted

This faint nostalgia cannot be trusted

Take it back (my past)

Every little picture shows a place

Better than the last one

Every smile it hurts me just the same

Cause I’m sad for all the lost songs

Frame it cause it hides the jagged edge

Better than the last one

Put it in the front to block the ledge

Always just smiles

Always for the lense

Always for your friends

Always for their sake
